Aoki – a small restaurant tucked away in a corner of Shaw Centre, along a hidden street that leads in from the busy Orchard Road. It took me some time to figure out where it was, with no typical large signboards that spell AOKI, but rather 2 simple Japanese words to denote its inconspicuous location.
Don’t be fooled by its low-lying, zen profile though, for this place have attracted tons of foodies, and its limited capacity only means your entry would be denied without reservations!
AOKI has long been famous for its expensive food, with its ala carte menu easily over $90 per item, an omakase of $105++, its lunch sets has become really attractive. The lunch sets includes an appetiser, salad, pickled vegetables, main dish and ends with a nice set of desserts!
I headed down specially for the Mazechirashi that so many have been talking about!
Joy to the mouth. Nothing more can describe this! Premium cuts of so many different types of sushi – maguro, swordfish, salmon, temaki, prawn, scallops, with uni and ikura, every bite is certainly an enjoyment! Especially that uni, so creamy and smooth, or that maguro, firm and chewy, oh oh and that nicely done temaki!
The Earl Grey Ice Cream was rather special, must try!
… and so for the price of $40 (+$4 compulsory for tea and towel, as well as GST/Service Charge – total bill came to about $50), it certainly isn’t too bad (okay maybe quite expensive) for a place like AOKI, quality food for reasonable lunch set prices.
