A place I would call an ‘atas curry house’, Coco Ichibanya specialises in curry dishes – something Singaporeans simply love. Similar to places like Monster Curry, this international franchise has been spreading across Singapore since its opening in 2001, but has stayed true to serving bowls of rice soaking in huge puddles of good curry.
Some things you might like about Coco Ichibanya – you can customise the amount of rice you want to it (excluding omelette dishes), so if you want more rice, you can order more and if you want less you can get less (in fact you pay a dollar lesser if you choose a smaller portion of rice of 150g). Spice level is customisable, and if you simply love curry so much that cleaning off 1 serving is not enough, you can add up to additional 2 more servings of it! In addition to their dishes, you can top up to get side dishes to try out toppings in the other mains.
The cream in this omelette was slightly disappointing initially as it was rather tasteless on its own, while the curry flavour was so strong that it overpowered it, but mixing the cream and the curry together birthed a slightly different taste that made the curry less spicy and more creamy that complemented the entire omelette dish.
The spicy and sweet signature Japanese curry was really appetising and went well with the rice, and along with the fluffy and slightly runny omelette, I can say that this is one of the better omelette curry rice I’ve had so far.
Reasonable price, delicious curry, fluffy omelettes – all ingredients that would beckon people to keep coming back to Coco Ichibanya!
